On Sunday 6th November the Boyle CTC team of Gavin Ward, Dallan O'Donnell, Niamh O'Connor and Julie Reynolds travelled for an away match v Portumna "Blue" LTC in the first of their Connacht Winter League Grade 5 matches.

Gavin played the mens singles and was up against a tough opponent, he lost the first set and although battling to 7-5 in the second set he was unable to push the match to a third set.  Niamh was playing the ladies singles and despite losing the first set 6-4 she dug deep and won the second set 6-2 however unfortunately this was not to be Boyle's day and Portumna took the second singles match.  Dallan & Julie played the mixed doubles for Boyle and went a set down but again they showed great determination to win the second set in a very tight battle - winning out 7-6.  Unfortunately the third set did not go Boyle's way and a strong Portumna were now 3-0 up on points.  However every match counts in this league so the ladies and mens doubles points were still up for grabs.  Gavin & Dallan were unfortunate to lose their doubles despite just losing the first set on a 7-6 scoreline.  Niamh & Julie won the first set in their match but were unable to keep the momentum going and lost out 2-1.  After a long day of tennis this was to be Portumna's day and despite some valiant efforts from the Boyle team it was all points to Portumna on this outing.  The team would like to express their thanks to Portumna LTC for their hospitality and refreshments throughout the day.

Onwards and upwards guys!!  The next fixture for this team is away to Galway LTC on the 11th December - at least ye will be indoors for this one!!
