After several match re-schedules due to freezing weather on Monday the 2nd January the Boyle CTC team of  Dallan O'Donnell, Tommy Egan, Niamh O'Connor and Geraldine Austin travelled for an away match v Galway LTC in the last of their Connacht Winter League Grade 5 group matches.

Dallan played the mens singles and got a great win for the team winning in straight sets 6-3 6-2.  Geraldine was playing the ladies singles and had a great battle on her hands!!  She won the first set in a close 7-5 scoreline, the second set was the same scoreline 7-5 but this time in Galway's favour.  With the match tied at 1 set each a championship tiebreaker had to decide this battle - unfortunately is was not to be Geraldine or Boyle's day and Galway took the second singles match by the narrowest of margins - 10-7 in the tiebreak!!   Niamh & Tommy played the mixed doubles for Boyle and came up against a strong Galway doubles pairing, losing out this one in straight sets.  It was still all to play for when the ladies and mens doubles matches went on next - with the teams on a scoreline of 2-1.  Dallan & Tommy were unfortunate to lose their doubles 6-4 6-3 and Geraldine & Niamh also came up against a strong doubles pairing and lost out in their match.

After a long day of tennis this was to be Galway's day and despite some valiant efforts from the Boyle team it was a 4-1 win to Galway.  This Grade 5 team is definitely getting stronger on each outing and with the competition experience gained in this winter league they will be tough opponents for any team in the next league they compete in.  Well done guys!!
