Connacht Final for Boyle Community Tennis Club

After Storm Isha put paid to the original fixture date for the Connacht Winter League semi finals an extra week's practice was gained by all 😊!!

Our Boyle Grade 5 Mens team pictured below travelled west on Sunday last to Maree Tennis Club outside Oranmore, Co.Galway.

The weather conditions were windy in our sheltered courts here in Boyle last Sunday but out on the coast at Maree Tennis Club the men had extremely difficult conditions to contend with.   This did not deter them and they took to the courts with Gavin & Joe battling hard but eventually loosing their first set narrowly by 6-4 and unfortuately despite their best efforts they lost the second set.  Meanwhile Dallan & Colin faced not only tough opposition but also had an injury to contend with.  They kept playing but were unable to take the win for Boyle, the lads were facing an uphill battle on many fronts now!!  Unfortunately it was not to be Boyle's day and Maree were eventual winners of this fixture.  A very strong team and we wish them all the best in the final.

Meanwhile back in Boyle Community Tennis Club the weather was kinder to us as we took on Galway Lawn Tennis Club.  Priscilla & Geraldine meant business and recorded a convincing 2-0 win in their first match which was shortly followed by another 2-0 victory by Deirdre & Niamh.

Boyle were 2-0 up in matches now and a place in the Connacht Final was in their sights!!  After a quick break they went back out on court and again Priscilla & Geraldine were first finished recording another strong victory for Boyle closely followed by a similar result from Deirdre & Niamh.  Boyle won the fixture 4-0 and secured their place in the Grade 5 Connacht Winter League Final.

A huge achievement for our small club - the squad pictured below have recorded wins against Ballina, Claremorris, Sligo and Galway on their way to reaching the finals where they will face Portumna.  The finals take place on Sunday 11th February in Castlebar.

The best of luck in the final ladies, everyone from Boyle will be cheering you on!!
