The stage was set for the finals of the Connacht Tennis Winter League - finals taking place for Boyle indoors in the dome in Galway Lawn Tennis Club - no weather reports needed for this update!!

The Boyle team playing were David Hannon, Matthew Callan, Deirdre Moore and Fiona Lavin who sucessfully overcame Galway in the semi finals.  The singles matches were first on with Matthew and Fiona playing for Boyle.  Matthew came up against a strong and steady Sligo player and unfortunately the first points of the day went to Sligo - 1-0 after the first match.  Fiona was having a hard battle with her Sligo opponent some long rallies but she managed to win out, even the scores and get some points on the board for Boyle - the score was now 1-1 after two matches.  David & Deirdre were up next in the mixed doubles, they also faced a very steady and well practised doubles pairing and were unable to get a win for Boyle.  The score was now 2-1 in Sligo's favour - both the ladies doubles and the mens doubles were on next at the same time and Boyle would need to win both matches in order to win!!  A tough ask but Boyle seemed up for the challenge both David & Matthew and Fiona & Deirdre winning their first sets... the title was looking possible!!  But alas both men and ladies lost the second set - this meaning both matches were now 1-1 and needed to be decided by a championship tiebreaker, (first to 10 points!!).  Boyle seemed to be in control in both matches getting the first few points in both tiebreakers, however it was not to be Boyles day, both mens and ladies eventually losing their tiebreaks on a scoreline of 10-7.   Brilliant tennis was on display throughout and the final two doubles matches were so closely contested - it was a great final - congratulations to the winners Sligo.
