On Sunday 6th November Boyle CTC hosted Portumna "Blue" LTC in the first of their Connacht Winter League Grade 6 matches.

Boyle got off to a great start and a 1-0 lead with Colin O’Sullivan winning his singles match 6-2 6-0. Meanwhile Priscilla Beirne was locked in a tough battle in her singles match winning the first set 6-4 and narrowly missing out on taking the second 5-7. It was going to take a third set to decide this match!!  Meanwhile our mixed doubles pairing of Patrice Cregg & Tommy Egan got their match underway on court 2. Priscilla dug deep in her singles and was able to win the third set 6-1, putting Boyle 2-0 up. Unfortunately although battling hard in the mixed doubles Portumna won out this one finishing at a similar time to the epic singles match!! The rain was now pretty heavy and after a few much needed refreshments from the clubhouse it was out again for the final mens and ladies doubles matches. With the score at 2-1 to Boyle it was all to play for - for both teams!!

Colin & Tommy gave it their best shot but despite playing through torrential rain and running a close 6-4 in the second set they lost out - score was now 2-2 - all down to the ladies doubles. Priscilla & Patrice had lost the first 4-6 however they evened things out and took the second set 6-4... the result was now all down to the final set!! However it was to be Portumna's day and they were able to take the third and final set. Well done Portumna!! A great match in really tough conditions and Boyle were unlucky to have lost out 3-2.  Next time!! However great performances and a great representation of our small club by all involved  

This teams next match is away to Portumna Green on the 27th November - best of luck to all players travelling.
